Setting the Sun Blaster Timers
The Nutritower provides the user with a lot of freedom regarding what and how to grow. When it comes to setting the timers for the lights and the pump, this is no different.
Lets start with the recommendations:
We recommend that you have the lights on for 12 to 14 hours a day, preferably during daytime hours. Plants need sleep too! As for the pump, 15 minutes every 2 hours during a period that starts 1 hour before the lights go on and ends 1 hour after the lights go out. For example: set the lights from 7am to 7pm. Set the pump to start at 6am for 15 minutes (1 pin) and every two hours until 8pm (6am, 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm).
Now here is the caveat - some people don't want to have the lights on during the day, etc.. Not a problem. Set the time periods to what ever works best for your schedule and monitor the plants. In most cases they thrive just fine!
To set the timers, start with all of the pins in the 'up' position.
for the lights:
push the pins down between the desired start time and off time, for example: 7am to 7pm. Plug it the timer and rotate the dial to line up the current time with the arrow on the face of the timer. Also make sure that the red switch on the side i set to the clock to engage the timer settings.
For the pump:
push one pin per 15 minute section of on time down, for example, at 6am push 1 pin down to turn the pump on for 15 minutes, 2 for 30 minutes, etc. repeat this for every time you want the pump to run.
Quick note - The plants don't need to be fed (watered) much or at all during the night, or 'down time'. this will help preserve water!
